The Department of the Environment & Energy designs and implements Australian Government policy and programs to protect and conserve the environment, water and heritage, promote climate action, and provide adequate, reliable and affordable energy. 

The Department’s Parks Australia Division jointly manages Kakadu National Park (KNP) with the Traditional Aboriginal Owners in accordance with the EPBC Act, the Kakadu lease agreement and other documents.  

The Community Liaison and Education Coordinator is a member of the Tourism and Visitor Services team which manages commercial tour operations and communication, delivers interpretive and education services, supports media, commercial photographers and travel writers and manages events and VIP visits.

The Role/Duties

Under the limited supervision of the Interpretation Project Officer the Community Liaison and Education Officer will;

• Coordinate Kakadu’s Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Program, including recruitment, contract management, staff rosters, monitoring content development, providing presentations,
• Coordinate community liaison and education programs presenting Kakadu’s key messages and values, and deliver activities and events such as Kakadu Bird Week to attract and engage target markets for Kakadu National Park (e.g. school groups, special interest),
• Deliver interpretive services to specialist groups including film crews, VIPs, school and educational groups, and media, including assisting the Parks Training Officer with the review and facilitation of the Junior Ranger Program;
• Mentor and supervise a team in a cross-cultural environment.

The Ideal Candidate/Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in developing and implementing interpretive programs and educational activities
• Experience in a stakeholder engagement environment
• Highly motivated to mentor and develop staff and contractors from a variety of backgrounds 

Eligibility:

• Hold a current driver’s licence and have the ability to drive a 4WD vehicle or undertake training.
• Hold a current First Aid certificate or have the ability to obtain this qualification.

• To be eligible for any position in the Department you must be an Australian Citizen.
• You must undergo and satisfy a National Police History Check
• This position also involves working with Children and the successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate Working with Children Check.
