The Darling Downs Environment Council Inc is a not-for-profit/non-government environmental advocacy organisation that promotes the protection of the environment and the principles of ecological sustainability. DDEC is one of nine regional Conservation Councils across the state that, along with the Queensland Conservation Council, form part of a unified conservation sector in Queensland. DDEC is incorporated in its own right and is governed by a management committee with nine members, who are elected and represent different local groups e.g Toowoomba For Climate Action, Friends of Escarpment Parks etc.
Our goal is to “Unite, Support and Advocate” for the environment with the community in actions and programs in the Darling Downs region.
As a Coordinator for DDEC, you will be encouraged to grow, develop and feel empowered to respond to the community and feed your assessment of critical issues back to the Queensland Conservation Council and the Minister for the Department of Environment and Science on a twice-yearly basis.
Working hours offer a high degree of flexibility to meet work and personal commitments and may require occasional after hours and weekend work. There is also a requirement to travel and work outside of the region on rare occasions.
The position is based at the Darling Downs Environment Council’s ‘eco-hut’ which is located in a very picturesque setting in Rangeville, Toowoomba.
