We are looking for a highly motivated, creative and skilled leader, committed to the rights of people with disability. This exciting new position sees you working alongside people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to promote and grow peer support structures in their communities.

ABOUT diversity and disability alliance

DDAlliance is a user led disability support organisation, run by and for people with disability from diverse (i.e. culturally and linguistically diverse) backgrounds with the support of families and allies. We support people to live the lives they choose. We are an independent, collective voice committed to diversity and full inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support peers and staff, ensuring they have the tools and training to effectively reach out to and engage with people with disability and their families.
  • Work with local peers to run peer support cafes and events across Sydney metropolitan and NSW to promote and grow peer support
  • Facilitate the development of peer mentor and facilitator networks, including capacity building, leadership skill development, including the recruitment and training of peer mentors and facilitators.
  • Undertake community engagement and outreach activities, working collaboratively with peers, staff and project partners to develop and promote peer support cafes and events, and distribute resources and training in targeted communities across Sydney metropolitan and NSW.
  • Develop and implement project guidelines, resources, and support materials for peer support networks, contributing to the development and implementation of project evaluation processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, local councils, state governments, and other stakeholders, ensuring successful project delivery and responding to opportunities for future project work.
  • Undertake accurate and timely record management, project documentation, and monitoring and evaluation of project activities, including reporting and expenditure to ensure outcomes are met within budget, contributing to team-building and professional development activities.
  • Provide regular staff and project updates and strategic advice to the Board to ensure informed decision-making and alignment with organisational goals and project deliverables.
  • Any other duties in line with the philosophy and objectives of DDAlliance as directed by the Board.

selection Criteria – Skills & Experience

Applicants must address each of the following criterion in their application.

Essential:

  • Commitment to the human rights of people with disability and the principles of participation and inclusion
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Experience working in the community sector, preferably alongside people with disability or diverse (multicultural) communities
  • Demonstrated experience in project delivery/coordination, including the ability to work within a project budget
  • Demonstrated abilities to collaborate and work with others to achieve shared goals
  • Proven ability to manage a broad range of activities and respond to specific issues within a short period of time
  • Computer literacy and experience in using presentation software, social media, online meeting platforms, data management and reporting

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading cultural change
  • Ability to speak a language other than English
