Better Place Australia is a community focused Not-for-Profit organisation with a growing range of psychological and community support services. BPA offers services that are evidenced based with a strong emphasis on supporting vulnerable communities across Melbourne metro and regional Victoria. Services are broad including financial counselling and developing financial literacy skills, support and treatment of mental health conditions, mediation and conflict resolution to improve family relationships, elder abuse prevention, and suicide prevention and support

The Board of Better Place Australia are seeking to appoint 2 voluntary, Non-Executive Directors with demonstrated experience in at least one the following areas to bring their number of Board members to 9:

  1. The mental health sector, lived or professional
  2. Senior Clinical and management expertise aligned to an area of service offering
  3. Professional experience in Family Law Services sector (e.g. family dispute resolution)
  4. Policy, advocacy, government relations within related sectors.

The role of the Board is to provide leadership and strategic guidance for Better Place Australia and to oversee management’s implementation of the recently developed 5 year Strategic Plan. The Board works as a team and meets up to eight times a year and are expected to attend an annual strategy workshop. Meetings are held both in person or online. Board members are also required to serve on at least one board committee. Board members must ensure that they can devote sufficient time and commitment to properly perform their role and duties on behalf of Better Place Australia.

Better Place Australia is Rainbow Tick accredited, has an active diversity and inclusion committee and prides itself on welcoming and including people from all backgrounds including lived experience with disability, mental health, LGBTIQ+ and first Nations people. Candidates will ideally have some Board experience and knowledge in best practice corporate governance and risk management.
