Chief Executive Officer - Townsville Hospital and Health Service

Davidson Recruitment
  • Leading Hospital & Health Services Provider
  • Exceptional Career Opportunity
  • Significant Influential Role

The Organisation:

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is an independent statutory body in North Queensland and proudly focusses on achieving a balance between efficient service delivery and high quality health outcomes. Serving a population of 240,000 across a vast region bordering Cairns, Hinterland, North West, Central West and Mackay Health Services, the organisation also provides tertiary hospital services to the entire North Queensland region. With significant population growth in the 65+ and age brackets, the overall population will grow to 300,000 by 2026.

With a diverse population geographically and culturally, there is a key challenge associated with providing healthcare to people of varying social-economic standards and varying levels of engagement with the healthcare system. The “Closing the Gap” initiative to improve the standards of ATSI health will therefore be a significant priority.

The region is well-represented by ATSI residents at 7% of the population and sectors are mainly in farming, mining and defence.

The Role:

The Chief Executive is responsible for 5,500 employees and an asset base and annual revenue exceeding $750M. With a highly respected, capable, high achieving and stable senior management team, the Chief Executive will be well supported by a team that encourages collegiate working with patients, communities, staff and stakeholders.

As a hub for inter-hospital transfers and patient retrievals by the Royal Flying Doctors Service and the Queensland Emergency Services, the organisational ability to respond to emergency cases will be critical.

Reporting to the Board and assuming the pre-eminent point of accountability through effective executive leadership, the key accountabilities will comprise:

  • Strategy Development comprising development and implementation of the vison and strategy
  • Healthcare Performance incorporating operating models, systems and structures
  • Healthcare Improvement to deliver improved and sustainable healthcare outcomes
  • Risk and Compliance Management including quality and culture
  • Expert Advice and high level counsel to the Board
  • Resource Efficiency including planning and allocation
  • Workforce Management strategy and planning
  • Relationships and Engagement with a range of stakeholders

A demonstrated high level of political acumen, influencing and negotiation skills will enable you to navigate an often sensitive, challenging and complex environment.
