Desert Support Services
  • Location: Broome and Balgo (WA)
  • Full Time Position (12 months) with high likelihood of extension

About the Organisation:

For 10 years, Desert Support Services Pty Ltd (DSS) has achieved outcomes for the Traditional Owners of the Central Desert region of Western Australia. We help our clients work on their Country to maintain culture and keep Country healthy.

About the role:

DSS is currently seeking a talented and committed Ngururrpa Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Coordinator to provide leadership and coordination to the Ngururrpa people’s land management programs. Working closely with the Ngururrpa Ranger Team Coordinator and guided by the Ngururrpa Plan for Country, the role will support a range of Indigenous land management activities on Ngururrpa country and beyond. This is a chance to create long-lasting social and ecological impact in a unique part of the desert.

This role is an exceptional opportunity to work with Traditional Owners in a well-supported, high achieving and dynamic land management program with established partnerships, funding and projects. The work will be wide-ranging and challenging and will include capacity building of Ngururrpa people to take on leadership roles, intergenerational transfer and recording of cultural knowledge, right way fire, threatened species monitoring and protection and two-way science projects (Ngururrpa rangers are fast becoming acknowledged as a premier authority on the iconic and elusive night parrot), and more.
