Birriliburu Pty Ltd (BPL) is the land management company of the Birriliburu people in central WA. Led by an all Martu Board, BPL manages contracts in excess of $1million a year.
Desert Support Services Pty Ltd (DSS) works alongside Traditional Owners to maintain the health of their culture, Country and people. For more than 10 years, our collaborative approach has achieved Traditional Owner led outcomes throughout the Central Desert region of Western Australia and beyond.
The BIrriliburu IPA covers more than 6.6 million hectares (almost the size of Tasmania), in Central Western Australia. This IPA is special for its three distinct bioregions - the Little Sandy Desert, Gibson Desert and the Gascoyne, and is home to ancient rock art and threatened species. Significant locations include the spectacular sandstone Carnarvon Ranges – Katjarra.
Birriliburu peoples’ connection to this country dates back more than 50,000 years and underpins their plan to continue managing and protecting it utilising their ranger program.
This is a unique opportunity to build on work already done to develop and grow a Martu owned and led land management company based in central WA.
Working with Martu staff, Directors and partners, the role focusses on two key areas:

Reflecting a long and strong partnership – and providing the best of both worlds – the role answers to the BPL Board, while day to day supervision is provided by DSS senior management.
The role requires significant time in Wiluna, and could, if you are keen, include time camping on beautiful, remote Birriliburu country with Traditional Owners.
