  • REPORTING TO: CWHC Manager
  • PERIOD OF APPRAISAL: Performance will be assessed every 3 months and a 6-month probationary qualifying period will apply
  • HOURS: 14 hours per week

ORGANISATION PROFILE

Cumberland Women’s Health Centre (CWHC) is a not-for-profit community organisation that works with women who experience family and domestic violence, trauma, and disadvantage in the Parramatta/Cumberland LGAs. The services we provide include case coordination support, advocacy, referral, counselling, case-management and health-centred groups and programs. Our services help women to regain control in their lives and thrive through the development of self-confidence; reducing social isolation and building social networks; reducing health inequities; and achieving economic independence. 

POSITION SUMMARY

The position is responsible for:

  • To provide short to medium term counselling to women who are financially or socially disadvantaged and have experienced Domestic and Family Violence and other issues.
  • To provide support, advocacy, information and referral services
  • Build and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
  • To develop and facilitate community education and therapeutic workshops in response to local priorities
  • To provide effective, efficient and timely services in a manner consistent with organisational philosophy, the state’s legislative and policy framework, organisational policies & procedures, service agreements and other legal requirements
  • To demonstrate professional behaviour to clients, staff, management and staff in other service systems 

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology / social work or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • 3 years or more experience in short to medium term counselling.
  • Demonstrated experience in running therapeutic projects.
  • Understanding of the NSW Justice System and Safer Pathways which is a model of service delivery for DFV services users developed as a part of the NSW Government DFV Framework for reform
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of women’s health issues, including domestic and family violence issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to feminist practice and social justice.
  • Demonstrated experience and sensitivity to working with women from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and ages
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain working relationships across all levels of an organization, with key stakeholders and with members of the community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills include word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Current Police Check & WWCC

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Member or eligibility to be member of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Ability to speak more than one language.
