Culture is Life is an Aboriginal-led Not-For-Profit organisation. We believe that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people have the right to thrive and flourish; strong in knowing who they are, where they come from and who they are connected to.

This role can be based anywhere in Australia. Our team are currently based in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Regional NSW.

Culture is Life is seeking a full-time Program Officer to join a small, creative, determined and focussed team who back our mob to catalyse and mobilise positive change. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Fullaship Program, a 12-month program open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who are on a journey to become community leaders, role models and mentors.

This will involve mentoring young people, curating cultural programs, traveling around Australia, and advocating for young First Nations people within the organisation and to the wider community. This role is ideal for a young person who is passionate about culture, has program and advocacy experience and wants to make a positive impact.

Young people are at the core of what we do and the successful applicant for this position will possess experience working with young people and in particular, working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Knowledge and Experience

  • High level of knowledge and understanding of the perspectives of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people and communities, in particular the perspectives of young people.
  • High level of experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
  • Knowledge and experience of working on place-based and/or sector-informed programs.

Core Objectives

  • Project and program implementation, ensuring delivery is on time and within scope.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Personal, project and program schedule management.
  • Regular communication of project and program progress to staff, stakeholders, CEO and Board.
  • Contribution to organisation-wide monitoring and evaluation.
  • Support Brand Manager with messaging and communications on relevant projects and programs.
  • Identify opportunities for First Nations young people including contribution to relevant events, conferences and campaigns.
