Court Support Coordinator

Community Restorative Centre (CRC)

The woman came back to court a few weeks later after having completed the MERIT program. She was back in control of her life. It was the sort of turnaround that is good for a volunteer’s heart. The woman still had to face the drug charge, but you could tell she was going to be OK.”

  • Join a diverse and passionate team in a flexible and supportive organisation

We want to hear from people from all backgrounds, including those with lived experience of the criminal justice system. The skills and experiences of First Nations people will be particularly valued.

The Opportunity

As a Court Support Program Coordinator, you will lead a dedicated team of Court Support Volunteers based in local courts across NSW. You will train and support program volunteers to provide information on court procedures, sources of legal assistance, making referrals to community and government agencies and providing limited support to people in local courts. Legal advice is not provided.

Using empathy and a strong understanding of the local court system, your role includes:

  • Project and volunteer support: You’ll actively build positive relationships with Government, community and other services to source relevant supports for court users. Liaising with volunteers and court staff, keeping up to date with court and criminal justice processes, and the design and delivery of training will make up most of your day.
  • Data, administrative and assessment duties: While the majority of this job involves training and supporting volunteers, data collection will be an important part of your role. You’ll conduct general administrative duties, Workplace Health and Safety monitoring, and updating and maintaining accurate program files.
  • Cultural safety: You’ll work in culturally appropriate ways in recognition of the unique cultural needs and over-representation of First Nations people in the criminal justice system.

Your usual work hours will be 2 days per week, between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with flexible days if needed. Some travel to local courts is required.
