About the role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Industrial Officer / Workers Compensation Specialist to join our Industrial Team in a senior capacity.
This role combines high-level industrial advocacy with specialist expertise in workers compensation and additional compensation matters. You will manage complex cases, provide expert advice, and represent members in negotiations and before state and federal tribunals.
Key Responsibilities include:
Case Work & Advocacy
- Manage complex industrial and workers compensation cases with autonomy
- Provide expert advice on industrial instruments and legislative frameworks
- Negotiate outcomes with employers, insurers, and claims managers
- Represent members in tribunals and formal proceedings
- Develop strategies for resolution with a strong focus on growing the union.
Strategy, Communication & Campaigns
- Identify and support campaign opportunities arising from member issues
- Drive and support member growth, retention and campaigns
Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor and support less experienced Industrial Officers
- Contribute to staff development and capability building
- Collaborate with Organising, Membership, and Communications teams
About you
- Passionate about work that improves working conditions and builds collective power
- Extensive experience in industrial relations, workers compensation, or legal advocacy
- Strong knowledge of industrial relations legislation and systems
- Proven ability to manage complex caseloads under pressure
- Strong alignment with union values and public sector advocacy
- Experience appearing before tribunals or similar bodies
- Demonstrated capacity to build trust and effective working relationships with members, employers and other stakeholders
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to mentoring others
- Current SA drivers licence
