The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Family Violence Division works across MCV and supports the Court in improving court user experience and access to justice and helps drive implementation of reforms which include:
The position primarily supports matters heard at Sunshine and Werribee Courts where affected family members have opted to participate in their family violence intervention order hearing online from either a designated remote hearing location or an alternative location.
The Practitioner will provide non-legal information and support to affected family members, assess their immediate safety risks, develop safety plans and provide appropriate referrals internally and externally. This role supports affected family members via pre-court engagement, on the hearing day (which includes accompanying affected family members during the hearing) and post-hearing follow up. The role will also play a key role in building relationships with local community and justice sector agencies to help ensure safe and supported pathways for affected family members to access the justice system and services to support ongoing safety and recovery from family violence.
The practitioner will also engage with the local community sector to deliver training and support in court processes to improve integrated service responses to family violence.
Relevant qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences, or other related field. Passionate and experienced specialised family violence professional committed to improving affected family members safety, service experience, and access to the justice and broader service system to support their ongoing safety and recovery from family violence, inc children.
