Position Description

  • Location: Nambour and Sunshine Coast Region
  • Responsible to: Centre Manager
  • Award: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010,
  • Level: Level 5 - $41.89 p/h Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (MA0001100)
  • Hours of Duty: 32 hours per week commonly during business hours (although a small amount of evening and weekend work may arise).
  • Status: Part-Time
  • Appointment Period: As soon as possible until end 2024 with potential for 2 more years

Role

To lead the Community Action for a Multicultural Society (CAMS) program for the Sunshine Coast. The role includes responding to the needs of people from CALD communities in the region including working with community leaders; creating pathways to social connection, employment and economic development for migrants; working with business, government, not for profits and community members and; working with our Multicultural Connections Sunshine Coast partners to achieve our goals through expanding networks, innovation and information sharing.

Responsibilities

Position Objectives - The key responsibilities of the project worker are to:

  • Deliver and report on the CAM’s work program 2022 - 2024
  • Identify needs and issues impacting on members of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, particularly new and emerging communities;
  • Provide information and policy advice to Multicultural Affairs Queensland (MAQ) and other relevant agencies about identified ethnic community needs and issues;
  • Work within and across community and other stakeholders such as government and business to facilitate strategic responses to identified needs and issues.
  • Initiate community building and community development initiatives and programs in the local area;
  • Support the development of innovative and creative approaches to social, employment and economic development pathways for migrants on the Sunshine Coast

YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING TO BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in a human service discipline (e.g. Community Development, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Science or similar) or relevant experience.
  • Experience in a community services role – working with migrants is desirable.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in and understanding of strategic planning.
  • Experience in project reporting, contracts, budgets and working with government.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills and diplomacy which includes management of people and effective community conflict processes.
  • Proven skills in developing quality projects and successful submission writing.
  • Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Australian drivers license.
  • Australian Federal Police check and Blue Card up to date or willing to obtain.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should be able to demonstrate their experience and knowledge with regard to the following selection criteria.

Please limit responses to be no more than one A4 page per selection criteria.

SC 1 Experience working with migrants and Australians from diverse communities informed by the principles and practice of human rights, social justice, community building and community development.

SC 2 A sound knowledge of the social, political and economic environment in which the CALD community on the Sunshine Coast are participating in, the contemporary issues impacting the CALD community and an assessment of the potential impact of these trends on the community.

SC 3 An aptitude for productive, collaborative relationships including the ability to work strategically, diplomatically, and effectively with staff, volunteers, all levels of government, business and community organisations, individuals and groups in the pursuit of a welcoming and richly diverse Sunshine Coast.

SC 4 High level administrative, communication and organisational skills including: submission writing; management of program funding and outcomes; reporting; developing and monitoring budgets in consultation with the finance officer; information sharing; event coordination and newsletter writing.

SC 5 Ability to problem solve and develop creative responses to identified community issues and challenges
