ORGANISATION OVERVIEW

Nestled on the banks of Birrarung and only four kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, Collingwood Children’s Farm was founded in 1979 to support and engage local children experiencing adversity. A much-loved non-profit organisation, the Farm’s reason for being remains true to its roots: Community Engagement, Education and Connection with Nature, Green Space and Animals.

The Farm is a not-for-profit inner-city farm that engages people from all walks of life to be a part of our community and provides green space for students and community members to grow their understanding of and connection to animals and nature. The Farm operates a range of inclusive community and education programs and activities that support people of all ages experiencing adversity and provides education opportunities to children, young people, and adults.

The Farm also plays a key role in engaging the community, hosting a number of community events and school holiday activities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as part of the Community and Education programs team, this role is responsible for delivering CCF community programs, primarily working with children and people with disabilities on ground, ensuring participants are supported and engaged.

The position is 0.6FTE including weekends until February 2024, with opportunity to extend pending funding availability.

eSSENTIAL ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Deliver programs by facilitating activities on ground with children facing educational challenges, disengaged youth and people with disabilities, ensuring program participants are supported and engaged in activities.
  • Collect program data as directed, supporting the measurement and evaluation of programs, ensuring all programs are strongly evidence-based, striving for continuous improvement and data supports future funding applications.
  • Collaborate with other teams, primarily animal husbandry, horticulture, farm experience and maintenance, to coordinate activities for participants.
  • Engage with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities with courtesy and respect, ensuring all program participants are welcome and supported.
  • Ensure Farm programs are inclusive and engaging by assisting Coordinator and Manager with the design and development of innovative programs, activities, and workshops, and making recommendations for change.
  • Incorporate strategies to include the diverse learning and support needs of children, young people and adults when delivering programs and activities.
  • Employ practical and theoretical skills to assist with a range of on- and off-ground tasks.
  • Workplace risk management.

key selection criteria

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with children, including leading activities, workshops and/or tours, and proficiency in behaviour management and conflict resolution AND/OR demonstrated experience working in the NDIS sector.
  • An excellent communicator and relationship builder, you are calm under pressure, adaptable, quick to form rapport with program participants.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities, displaying a high level of judgement and possessing a ‘can-do’, hard-working, fun and innovative attitude towards work.
  • Ability to operate independently with high professional and personal integrity, while being a flexible team player.

Desirable:

  • Proficient in using a range of Microsoft Office and Google packages and ‘Better Impact’ volunteer management system (or other similar database).
  • Ability to safely and competently operate a broad range of power tools and woodworking plant / equipment will be highly regarded.
