cohealth and Parkville Youth Justice Precinct

Parkville Youth Justice Precinct is a youth custodial facility that accommodates children and young people aged 10 to 21 years (up to 24 years depending on age of sentencing). Parkville is the reception point for the Youth Justice custodial system and as such, all reception health assessments are undertaken at Parkville before some young men will be transferred to Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct. The primary health service at Parkville is a nurse-led model, with 24/7 on-site nursing coverage.

About the role

cohealth is experienced in delivering services and support to people and their families involved with the justice and child protection systems.

The Level 3 Dentist performs general dental work requiring the independent examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment of young people at Parkville. The Level 3 Dentist is responsible for providing general dental services and to ensure that the standard of care is maintained at the highest level in accordance with cohealth policy and procedures and relevant legislation and standards.

Your duties include:

• Ensure the delivery of best practice, high quality and client focussed dental services within a custodial environment
• Advanced skills in managing most difficult clinical situations, those with more complex medical and social histories and those with disabilities
• Ability to provide a broad range of efficient dental services, including but not limited to extraction of simple impacted 3rd molars infrequently requiring support to advice from more senior clinicians
• Actively participate as a member of the wider dental team including Oral Health Therapists and Dental Assistants

Our ideal candidate:

• Possession of a dental qualification eligible for registration as a dentist with the Dental Board of Australia
• Demonstrated high level of clinical competence
• Experience working in a forensic setting is desirable
• Highly developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
