The University Veterinarian and Senior Animal Welfare Officer ensures high standards of animal welfare in research and teaching at RMIT. This role focuses on developing and delivering the program of veterinary care at RMIT, along with providing expert advice on best practice animal welfare to stakeholders including researchers, technical services staff, and the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC). They also support education and training, and governance related activities to ensure awareness, understanding and compliance with the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals, relevant legislation, and RMIT policies.
The position requires a collaborative and proactive approach, liaising internally and externally with government bodies and various teams, including the Senior Manager of Research Ethics, Integrity and Governance and the Senior Manager of Bioresources and Biosafety. Given the evolving nature of animal welfare, the role demands continuous learning, problem-solving, and strong leadership and communication skills.
This is a key role within a high performing team with a shared goal of supporting RMIT researchers in the conduct of ethical, responsible and excellent research, and a positive culture of care and service excellence.
Please note that after-hours and weekend on-call support may be required as part of this role to ensure continued service availability.

A degree in Veterinary Science.
Registration with or eligibility for registration with the appropriate Regulatory Board in Victoria (currently the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria).
