Community Legal Centres NSW (CLCNSW) is the state peak body representing and supporting 42 member community legal centres across NSW. These centres provide free, high-quality legal services and champion social justice.

About the position

The role of the Senior Bookkeeper is to support the CLCNSW Financial Service Manager in the provision of financial services to subscribers of CLCNSW’s Financial Service, a shared financial service available to community legal centres. The role will also provide administrative support to the service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping for subscriber organisations including: processing accounts payable and receivable; ongoing reconciliation of bank accounts and credit cards; maintaining records of receipts and payments; remittance of GST and PAYG to the ATO.
  • Payroll for subscriber organisations including: preparation of payroll and monitoring; maintaining employee records; ensuring personnel-related payments made; salary sacrifice arrangements.
  • Preparation of month-end journals and reconciliations.
  • Reporting for subscribing organisations including: preparation of budgets, financial reports for Boards, and acquittals to funding bodies.
  • Administration duties including: supporting the CLCNSW Financial Service Manager; answering enquiries from subscriber organisations; filing and archiving; other duties as set out in the position description and required by the Financial Service Manager.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  1. Strong understanding of accounting principles – CPA qualified or equivalent experience.
  2. Demonstrated high-level organisational skills, including strong time management skills, ability to prioritise work and attention to detail
  3. Demonstrated ability to self-manage and apply a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude
  4. Demonstrated accuracy and efficiency in processing
  5. Proficiency in Xero and MYOB
  6. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office – Excel and Word
  7. Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets and management reports
  8. Experience in job accounting
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  10. Commitment to working cooperatively and respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations

Desirable:

  1. Experience working in the not-for-profit sector
  2. Experience preparing management reports for non-profit Boards
  3. Experience managing and reporting salary packaging
  4. Experience working with multiple clients
  5. Experience in a Mac environment
