The City of Yarra is an inner metropolitan municipality which is home to a diverse community of approximately 100,000 people across 12 different inner Melbourne suburbs. The City of Yarra Children’s Services Unit operates 5 early childhood education centres with integrated kindergarten, 4 sessional kindergartens, occasional care and OSHC programs. Our Children’s Services are committed to providing safe and inclusive environments where educators work together with children, families and the community to meet their needs. Starting as soon as possible, the successful applicants will commence their Early Years Educator journey with our North Yarra Early Years Precinct at our North Carlton Children’s Centre, located on Wurundjeri country. 

North Carlton Children’s Centre is an 89 place Long Day Care and Sessional Kindergarten. At North Carlton Children’s Centre, our mission is to support the children in our care to be confident, caring and active change-makers, in their daily lives and for the future. We take pride in our relationships with children, families and the wider community and work to support the learning and wellbeing of our children every day. Our programs meet the National Quality Standards for Education and Care Services and are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning Development Framework. Inviting applications for Early Childhood Educators, Diploma and Certificate III qualified, to join our Children’s Services Team. To be successful in the position you will be an Educator who has an enthusiasm for engaging with children, families and the community. You will understand the benefits of observing children’s play and learning, to extend on their interests and provide positive outcomes through enriched educational environments. You will have proven experience in leading the implementation of high-quality children’s educational programs. You will have solid understanding of children’s emotional attachment, inclusion and development more broadly. Yarra is a child safe organisation and as such you will understand the important role that educators play in protecting and advocating for children’s wellbeing.

At North Carlton Children’s Centre

  • We use progressive routines throughout the day and implement an indoor/outdoor program to respond to the needs of individual children.
  • We create innovative indoor and outdoor learning environments that provide children with opportunities to explore, experiment, create, take risks and play.
  • Our Educators facilitate children’s play, weaving the children’s emerging interests with our professional expertise to create meaningful experiences and learning.
  • We support children’s social and emotional learning and understand the protective impact of this support for children’s life-long mental health. 
  • We work in teams without Room Leaders and support Diploma educators to develop leadership skills to support this leadership structure.

Applicants are also required to have:

  • An ACECQA approved Cert III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent)
  • Up to date First Aid, CPR, EpiPen and Asthma Management qualifications,
  • Valid Working with Children Check,
  • Current mandatory reporting training,
  • You must have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this job.
