As a key program within the City of Adelaide, Public Realm ensures the City's streets, public spaces and assets are attractive, clean, well presented and maintained. Public Realm are responsible for cleansing, minor capital works projects, pavement and road construction and maintenance, horticulture and operations and workshops services.

About the Opportunity

At the City of Adelaide we are currently seeking an experienced Manager, Waste & Cleansing Operations to join our Public Realm program. This is a role where you can feel like an ambassador for the city and have a genuine impact on the future of one of the world’s most liveable cities.

In this you will provide leadership to the Waste & Cleansing Teams to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of all CoA’s waste, cleansing and recycling services and to ensure the City’s presentation meets all service standards.

You will also oversee the planning and delivery of cleansing in the city, kerbside general waste, co-mingled recycling and organics collection services, hard waste and on-street cardboard collection to residents and businesses, as well as waste and recycling services to CoA facilities and in the public realm, including the Park Lands, on-street and events.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Substantial experience in the delivery of waste and recycling educational programs and practices for residents, community groups, schools and businesses.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant waste management legislation and policies including the Environment Protection Act 1993 and Environment Protection Regulations 2009, Environment Protection Policies, South Australia's Waste Strategy 2015-2020.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of professional and operational employees.
  • Extensive experience in managing waste operations and/or cleansing programs.
  • Extensive experience in delivering municipal domestic and business waste management services in a complex urban environment.
  • Thorough understanding of sustainable waste management policy, practices and legislation, including the principles of waste avoidance and resource recovery, relevant to Capital Cities and the relevant policy directions of the South Australian and Australian governments.
  • Thorough knowledge of the waste and recycling industry, particularly as it relates to and impacts upon the activities and responsibilities of local government.
