Circle Green Community Legal (Circle Green) is a community legal centre in Western Australia providing state-wide specialist legal services in employment, workplace discrimination, residential tenancy law, family and domestic violence, and humanitarian services aimed at assisting people who are otherwise disadvantaged in their access to legal services.

Our Purpose is to create a system, place, and space to ensure a safety net of best practice legal advice, education, and advocacy in our specialist fields.

We are the first to achieve a merger of specialist, statewide, not for profit legal practices in Australia. We are now in an exciting position where we can offer people in Western Australia specialist legal services in the areas of employment, tenancy and humanitarian in one organisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join our Humanitarian team. Your focus will be on assisting our clients with the conversion from Temporary Protection Visa to permanency.

Senior Lawyers also provide legal advice, further assistance, representation, community legal education, training and be involved in the direct supervision and management of junior legal staff.

Salaries are currently being reviewed and will be dependent on level of experience.

The Humanitarian team at Circle Green Community Legal focuses on empowering vulnerable people by providing professional and accessible migration assistance, legal advice and education. We strive to do this in a way that embraces diversity and strengthens communities.

We help people new to Australia from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, including humanitarian visa holders, asylum seekers, refugees and people who are otherwise disadvantaged in their access to legal services.

We provide assistance in a wide range of issues in specialist immigration, protection visas, family and domestic violence, family reunion, community legal education and other services such as providing professional development for lawyers, graduate law students or other internship placements across a variety of disciplines.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will have knowledge in migration law and/or have experience working with refugees and asylum seekers. More importantly, you are passionate to address refugee and asylum seeker issues and have a demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice.

You will:

  • Hold or be eligible to hold a WA legal practice certificate with at least 5+ years post admission experience.
  • Be experienced in supervising and providing legal advice and case in migration law, preferred candidates will have experience and sound knowledge of refugee issues.
  • Have legal supervision experience of unrestricted and restricted lawyers, paralegals and volunteers.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex concepts to people from diverse social, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Have experience in legal project coordination in the community sector (desirable).
