The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. The CLC represents traditional landowners, native title holders and other Aboriginal people in the southern half of the Northern Territory—an area of almost 780,000 square kilometres.
The CLC provides its constituents with advice, advocacy and practical assistance to support them to manage their land and realise and protect their rights.
The CLC is seeking to appoint an additional member to its Audit and Risk Committee. The Committee is established by and reports to the CLC’s Accountable Authority. Its purpose is to assist the CLC’s Accountable Authority in discharging its responsibilities under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act, 1976; Native Title Act, 1999 and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act, 2013. The core functions of the committee are to provide advice on the appropriateness of CLC’s financial reporting, performance reporting, system of risk oversight and management and systems of internal control.
The committee composition includes a balance of professional skills, knowledge, and technical experience to effectively discharge its responsibilities outlined in the Audit and Risk Committee Charter.
Committee members are appointed for an initial 3 year term and may be reappointed subject to satisfactory performance and consideration of the committee composition.
The committee currently meets for one day 4 times per year with substantial amounts of pre-reading required; members are remunerated per meeting attended.

Applicants should have a comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal affairs and some understanding of the Central Australian context.
In addition to those above any skills or knowledge with regards to Information Technology, Human Resource management, Legal matters or public sector management, are desirable.
Eligible Aboriginal applicants will be granted priority consideration for this vacancy. If an Aboriginal applicant is selected, the remaining non-Aboriginal applicants will not be assessed.
