The Carbon Disclosure Project is looking to recruit an intern to assist with our corporate engagement work in Australia, NZ and SE Asia. This is an unpaid role but has great CV value.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an international not-for-profit organisation that represents 655 institutional investors with assets of $78 trillion working to drive greenhouse gas emissions reduction and sustainable water use by business and cities.

We provide a transformative global system for thousands of companies and cities around the world to measure, disclose, manage and share environmental information. Over 3,700 companies disclosed climate change information through the CDP in 2011, including 73% of the ASX 100, 50% of ASX 200 companies and 42% of the NZX 50.

This post will be valuable experience for anyone seeking a career in climate change or sustainability, and is an opportunity to gain insight and skills in a broad range of areas beneficial for careers in communications, consultancy, finance and in-house corporate sustainability roles. The successful candidate will be based in our Sydney office.

The intern will be involved in a variety of work including:

  • supporting our engagement work with large, listed companies in Australia, NZ and SE Asia
  • supporting the organisation of workshops, webinars and other events in Australia & NZ
  • responding to enquiries from companies related to the CDP investor questionnaires
  • database management
  • online research

The ideal candidate will:

  • have a university degree and/or two years work experience in business, communication, finance, sustainability and/or climate change
  • have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • be confident and capable at engaging with stakeholders at all levels
  • have strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • demonstrate a willingness to learn and the ability to pick up new skills quickly
  • have knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting and the business implications of climate change (desirable)
  • have well-developed online research and analytical skills
  • have strong IT experience, including database management skills, fluency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • demonstrate strong self-motivation and an ability to work effectively under pressure
  • have excellent customer service skills
  • the right to live and work in Australia

This is an unpaid internship for a minimum of 15-20 hours per week, although lunch and travel expenses will be reimbursed. The intern will be based in CDP’s Sydney office in St Leonards for four months, starting as soon as possible.
