Better Health Network (BHN) is looking for a strong and inspiring people leader to guide our Health Promotion team into its next chapter.

This is not just a role for someone with technical health promotion expertise, it’s for a leader who knows how to bring out the best in people, build accountability, strengthen culture, and create a high-performing team environment where great ideas turn into real outcomes.

You’ll lead a passionate and highly skilled team working across community health and wellbeing priorities, supporting programs that create healthier, more equitable communities across Melbourne’s south-east. The team already has strong health promotion knowledge, now we’re looking for a leader who can coach, mentor, support, and empower staff to deliver with consistency, clarity, and impact.

About the role

As Team Leader, Health Promotion, you will provide operational leadership to a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based health promotion initiatives aligned with BHN’s strategic priorities.

You will

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Health Promotion professionals to achieve high-quality outcomes
  • Build a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture
  • Strengthen individual staff capability through coaching, supervision, and development
  • Support staff to effectively manage projects, priorities, timelines, and budgets
  • Drive program planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement
  • Foster strong partnerships with community organisations, councils, schools, sporting clubs, and government stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively across BHN to deliver integrated and intersectional approaches to community wellbeing
  • Lead operational performance, reporting, compliance, and funding deliverables

This is a hands-on leadership role where your ability to motivate teams, improve performance, and create clarity and momentum will be highly valued.

About you

You are an experienced and people-focused leader who knows how to build trust, support growth, and create accountability without losing empathy and connection.

You bring:

  • Proven leadership experience within community health, public health, or health promotion
  • A strong track record of building team capability and leading cultural change
  • Experience mentoring staff and supporting performance improvement
  • The ability to create structure, follow-through, and accountability across programs and projects
  • Confidence managing competing priorities, budgets, timelines, and deliverables
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • A collaborative and values-driven leadership style
  • Understanding of systems thinking, health equity, and community engagement approaches
