Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS) is a multi-disciplinary Community Legal Centre providing services for all women in Central Australia and the Barkly Region, with offices based in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This dynamic role is centred on creating, leading, and delivering strategic and operational communications externally. The Communications and Media Officer works with the Management team to achieve CAWLS strategic plan, driving and delivering communications priorities, engaging media, and providing communications expertise to strategic advocacy/policy projects and CLE/law reform campaigns.

The role requires enthusiasm, excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in addition to working well with others. An eye for detail and the capacity to work in a busy environment, meet strict deadlines, prioritise work and maintain quality standards are also essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As part of a team, develop a communications strategy and implementation plan designed to enhance CAWLS service delivery in Central Australia, the Barkly and remote communities.
  • Maintain and develop CAWLS website and online presence including management and development of social media channels and content.
  • Develop internal project reports, briefs and newsletters with consistent branding to enhance the public reputation of the organisation.
  • Provide communications advice and support to the management team.
  • Develop media releases and media and communications plans with respect to discrete projects.
  • Production of written community legal education resources in collaboration with the legal team.
  • In collaboration with the Sisters in Law team, develop and implement a strategy to maximise reach and impact of CAWLS podcast program.
  • The position is based in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. * Some travel may be required from time to time
