ORGANISATION

The Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) is the fundraising and marketing arm of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and provides financial support to the Institutes’ medical research programs and Garvan’s 2030: Discoveries to Impact Strategy.

The Foundation also delivers Garvan’s public engagement and awareness activities.

This is an exciting time for the Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) team in 2024, as they are building on the success and momentum of recent years having expanded across all fundraising and marketing programs.

The remarkable success of the Foundation’s activities is having a catalytic impact on the Institute’s ability to make scientific contributions on a global scale that will ultimately lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and prevention or cure of a range of diseases.

ROLE

A genuine rare opportunity for an experienced digital marketing professional with email marketing experience responsible for supporting the digital marketing operations of the Garvan Research Foundation and wider Institute.

Reporting to the Senior Content Marketing Officer, the role will work closely with multiple teams to optimise digital marketing aspects of the donor journey, the Garvan brand and identify growth opportunities and insights into digital marketing results with a focus on email marketing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute digital marketing campaigns from start to finish including set up, A/B testing, analysis, including monthly eNews and targeted marketing and fundraising campaigns, and internal and other brand communications.
  • Plan and execute digital donor journey automations with an audience-centric and strategic focus.
  • Act as the gatekeeper of email communication, data set up and brand templates.
  • Plan, collate, write, edit and repurpose content for email communication ensuring it is engaging and actionable and supports channel-specific digital integrated marketing plans.
  • Work closely with Data team regularly reviewing donor journeys ensuring consistency and integration/accuracy of reporting.
  • Support Marketing and Communications Officer and the Senior Content Officer Coordinator to develop email marketing strategy/plan.
  • Produce digital marketing reports, providing analysis, evaluation and insight of eDM activity against goals, recommending areas for improvement.
  • Share insights and recommendations to enhance email marketing strategies
  • Work collaboratively to drive optimisation strategies for strong digital campaign performance, improving click through and conversion rates.
  • Show initiative, creativity and innovation in a supportive environment.
  • Other administrative duties as required.

YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience with a track record in digital marketing (with focus on email marketing platforms), preferably with experience in fundraising or not-for-profits (not essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to edit and repurpose compelling and engaging email marketing content, turning complex scientific subject matter into digital savvy copy informing supporters and promoting scientific research.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing platforms, trends and best practice.
  • Strong understanding of data and eDM metrics ability to track, report and increase performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively articulate thoughts and ideas.
  • Ability to self-manage and work autonomously; demonstrated success in balancing competing priorities while supporting a wider team.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to interpret, draw conclusions, and identify opportunities from data.
  • Basic knowledge of web development technologies like HTML and CSS for email templates and content management.
  • Understanding of other digital and social channels, including Facebook advertising campaign set-up, targeting and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Mailchimp (or other email marketing platforms) and good understanding of Google Analytics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other teams but also work independently to execute tasks.
