ORGANISATION

Story Factory is a not-for-profit organisation focused on enriching the lives of young people in under-resourced communities through quality creative writing programs.

Since opening in 2012, they have taken more than 75,000 student enrolments, including 15% from First Nations young people and 49% from cultural and linguistically diverse young people.

Story Factory builds young people’s literacy, confidence and creativity, with the knowledge that stories have the power to change lives.

Story Factory is in the 2nd year of an ambitious three-year fundraising strategy (Voices of Tomorrow) currently being implemented by a high- performing fundraising team.

ROLE

Are you a strategic experienced Philanthropy Manager passionate about writing and literature?

This is a unique opportunity to drive the major gift fundraising strategy for high-net-worth individuals, companies, trust and foundations and bequests to ensure the growth, sustainability and impact of Story Factory.

Working with the Head of Fundraising, Executive Director and board, you will develop relationships with new and existing donors, building a pipeline and plan to sustain financial growth, and assist with managing relationships with key government stakeholders.

The role will suit a strategic self-starter with experience in major donor acquisition and stewardship. You will work across multiple revenue streams, with award-winning professionals and join at an exciting time of growth and investment, knowing your work is making a real difference in young people’s lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Head of Fundraising, develop and execute a major donor acquisition and stewardship strategy, activating giving from established major donors, trusts and foundations and corporates, and identifying and cultivating relationships with new potential donors.
  • Develop and implement corporate partnerships strategy.
  • Contribute to three-year and annual fundraising plans.
  • Execute Story Factory’s Bequest Program, implementing a framework to increase activity and awareness.
  • Contribute to government relations strategy in collaboration with the Head of Fundraising.
  • Track progress against fundraising targets, monitoring effectiveness and adjusting plans accordingly.
  • Work in collaboration with the Operations Manager to monitor and track the implementation of activities, programs and projects funded by major gifts, ensuring key milestones are met and funders are kept informed about any changes to planned projects
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Fundraising to develop a 12-month donor engagement plan.
  • Engage with and activate Board members to assist with the implementation of the major gifts’ strategy, wherever relevant.

YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Demonstrated success and experience in major gift fundraising in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Ability to initiate and nurture authentic lasting relationships with philanthropists, trustees, corporate and government partners.
  • Knowledge and insight into philanthropic giving.
  • Experience of developing and executing fundraising plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, prospect research and CRM database management.
  • Demonstrated relationship management experience with the ability to develop and nurture relationships with stakeholders at all levels and in a variety of contexts.
  • Ability to work in a small dynamic environment.
  • A passion for writing and for improving lives of marginalised young people.
