Are you looking to join a diverse team making a positive difference? CatholicCare NT is a not-for-profit organisation, providing social services and programs to individuals, couples, families, children, groups, schools and agencies across the Northern Territory. The Families as First Teachers (FaFT) program is an early learning and family support program for children birth to 4 years and their families. CatholicCare NT runs an adapted version of the NT Department of Education model. The FaFT program works in a culturally appropriate way across agencies to promote optimal child development, family engagement in early learning, family support and both-ways learning. A key goal is to support children's successful transition to preschool.

About the role

You will bring knowledge of Western early childhood development and practices including a deep understanding of and commitment to play-based learning. The Early Parenting Educator - Tiwi brings extensive knowledge of Tiwi early childhood development and practices as well as a deep understanding of life in Wurrumiyanga and the complexities of the cultures of the Tiwi Islands. These teachers work together to develop and deliver a program that builds the confidence and capacity of family members to support their children to grow up healthy and happy.

Who are we looking for?

  • Early Childhood teaching qualification
  • Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the NT or ability to obtain
  • Knowledge of and experience in current best practice in early learning (e.g. play-based learning, trauma-informed practices, nature-based pedagogy)
  • Ability to bring a strategic and integrated approach to the provision of programs that meet community needs
  • Kindness, patience and joy for working with children and families

This position is classified as a mandatory worker position for the purpose of COVID-19 vaccines and directions issued by the NT Chief Health Officer.
