The Team Leader Carer Gateway role with Carers WA is a full-time, fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026. The position attracts a salary of $93,300 p.a., plus super, salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading) and 2 wellness days per annum.

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

Position Description:

The Team Leader – Carer Gateway is responsible for providing professional guidance and support to employees responsible for providing carer focused services in consultation with carers to identify their goals and ensure an appropriate support plan is prepared, implemented, and evaluated. This position is also responsible for the coordination and administration of financial and business functions required to support the referral and the delivery of services to carers.

The Team Leader manages a team of 12-16 employees to exceed carer expectations and create a collaborative, inclusive and innovative team environment. The position is required to work successfully within a team environment and communicate professionally and empathetically with carers. Additionally, the Team Leader is responsible for establishing and reviewing operating procedures for efficient service delivery, and is required to liaise with a wide range of partner organisations to ensure quality services are delivered to carers in Western Australia.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • A relevant qualification (Cert IV Community Services or Business Administration) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in managing a team in a community services organisation.
  • Demonstrated coaching and leadership skills supporting teams to deliver high quality services to clients within an area of carer, health, aged care, disability or mental health.
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to work well in a demanding service delivery environment.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in team supervision, both individual and group, and the ability to facilitate constructive feedback in open conversations with staff.
  • Experience with development of procedures and workflow for administration processes for best client outcomes.
  • Experience of client case management including complaints and incident response.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding and empathy of carers, health, mental health, ageing and disability issues including with Aboriginal, CaLD and LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities.
  • Possession of smart mobile phone for systems access.
  • High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Suite, CRM and/or customised client databases.
  • Well-developed communication skills both written and verbal within various communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom, face to face).
  • Willingness to work flexibly including active participation in change management.
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months.
