Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

About the Role

The Regional Coordinator - Esperance with Carers WA is a full-time, fixed-term contract ending June 2026. The position attracts a salary package of $88,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (including 17.5% leave loading on annual leave) and two wellness days per annum.

The role is predominately outreach, and is responsible for providing access to information, capacity building, increasing networks of support and building resilience to empower carers in Esperance. Duties can include:

  • Assist the Carer Gateway Program with emergency respite referrals, caseload management, Carer Star assessments and assisting support planners to source and arrange service coordination.
  • Promotion of Carers WA Programs will also include providing input and feedback regarding the caring role, Carers Recognition Act, and the Carers Charter.
  • Monthly regional social suppport groups, assist with regional pop-up presentations and information session.
  • Educating family carers, service providers and mainstream organisations (including local councils, schools, etc.) around the important role of unpaid carers and the assistance that is available for them.
  • Work with existing Carers WA process and systems, and encourage an accessible and inclusive workplace.

Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. Typical stressors associated with this role may include remote or isolated work due to the outreach component of the role, handling difficult conversations such as conversations around suicidal ideation, and exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Qualification relevant to the role or at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the not-for-profit sector.
  2. Experience working with carers, people who are aged, have a disability, mental health issues and/or chronic illness.
  3. High level communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  4. Proven ability to encourage and build team spirit amongst staff, bring about mutual respect and cooperation.
  5. Proficiency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
  6. Current C class drivers licence (required for outreach component of the role).
  7. National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
