Program background

Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) supports implementation of the Australian Government's climate change commitments under Australia's International Development Policy, in line with partner government priorities.

CRC supports the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to increase climate investments, drive climate integration, and better address climate change and disaster risk across Australia’s development portfolio.

CRC incentivises funding towards gender-responsive, inclusive climate and disaster resilience programming, particularly in the water, food, nature-based solutions, and energy sectors.

DFAT has engaged DT Global to support the implementation of CRC through a Support Unit.

The Role

Communications and public diplomacy support are core service offerings provided by the CRC for DFAT bilateral and regional programs.

The Communications Adviser will work directly with DFAT to:

  • Support the development of climate diplomacy products and services to help showcase Australia’s climate action
  • Communicate the impact of Australia’s climate change programs through liaison with Australian missions in the region and, when required, implementing partners
  • Generate communications products/materials, including publications and social media content and/or commission local communications providers to produce these materials in-country
  • Support the development and update of DFAT’s climate finance communications strategy.
  • Contribute to promoting and mainstreaming Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in the delivery of all CRC activities, including communications.
  • Other tasks and duties as required to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of the CRC.

About You

Special Note: Candidates must have or be willing and eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (Negative Vetting 1 or higher). To be eligible, individuals must be an Australian citizen and have a checkable background.

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or relevant field experience in communications, international relations, international development, or another relevant discipline.
  • Experience working for the Australian Government or Australian Government funded development programs on communications.
  • Experience producing a range of communication products and content, including social media
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, and intercultural skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organisation in a participatory way.
  • Understanding of and commitment to GEDSI, Child Protection, Preventing Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), prevention of human trafficking, anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
