Composting Assistant

Capital Scraps Composting

Don't mind getting your hands dirty for climate action and local greening efforts? This part time position (20 hrs per week) will be hugely rewarding if you get a kick out of direct climate action.

About us

Capital Scraps Composting (formerly the Hackett Compost Collective) collects household kitchen scraps and efficiently turns them into soil amendment, thereby avoiding the generation of landfill gas while getting carbon back into our local soils. For more information, check our website: compost.org.au.

About the role

The bulk of the work will be riding the electric trike to pick up the scraps on a collection route throughout Inner North Canberra. Some heavy lifting involved with the actual composting, as well as mess, odour, and the possibility of bugs crawling on you. But also fun!

About you

Apart from your tenacity and physical fitness we also require impeccable record-keeping skills, superior reliability and a large dose of flexibility. You will also need to work efficiently when unsupervised, with close attention to detail and taking pride in your work. You will be trained in all of the relevant composting techniques and fundamentals including the biochemical and biophysical underpinnings that are necessary to facilitate best practice composting. Prior studies in relevant scientific fields would be advantageous.
