Canteen’s success is built on the capability and motivation of its people. We are now seeking a Senior Programs Officer – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs to join our team. This role will be responsible for supporting the design, delivery and evaluation of a portfolio of peer support, psychosocial and recreational initiatives for Canteen’s service users, with a special focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

This is a high-impact role for a youth engagement expert with a natural ability to connect and support.

  • Base Salary + Superannuation + Not-For-Profit Salary Packaging (up to $15,900 of your salary tax-free).

About our role

  • Design, organise, and deliver a range of engaging events and psychosocial programs for young people impacted by cancer, actively supporting their participation, fostering peer support, and facilitating leadership development, while ensuring effective program management and evaluation.
  • Promote Canteen's programs and events in line with brand guidelines, expand reach through external partnerships and networking, represent the organisation at relevant forums and events, participate in fundraising activities, and contribute to the Reconciliation Action Plan through program collaboration.
  • Responsible for conducting thorough risk analysis and ensuring compliance with Canteen's risk management, child protection, incident reporting, and clinical risk policies and procedures, including managing 'working with children checks' and escalating clinical risks.
  • Plan, monitor, and deliver on program budgets, actively minimising operational costs through donations and fundraising, with accurate recording of financial information.
  • This role involves actively contributing to policy and process development, participating in cross-functional groups and discussions to support organisational priorities, and gathering service user feedback to drive continuous improvement.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in in education, youth work, allied health, human services or related fields is highly regarded
  • Experience in working directly with diverse communities, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and communites
  • Highly motivated, team player who contributes to developing an effective team that is focused on achieving against key performance indicators. 
  • Demonstrated skills designing and delivering engaging events, recreation programs and programs with significant psychosocial practice elements (e.g. structured group work time)
  • Essential qualities for this role include being approachable, having the ability to listen actively, exhibiting a friendly and professional approach, and demonstrating high levels of integrity, honesty, and commitment.

*Due to the nature of Canteen’s work, you will be required to occasionally work weekends and evenings. Advance notice will be given when this is the case, and Canteen does have a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leave as agreed with the supervising manager.

Employment Expectations
