The Role

A not-for-profit community association are seeking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated Director of its bilingual childcare centre in Canberra’s south. The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Ensuring the effective financial and operational administration of the centre
  • Ensuring the highest level of quality bi-lingual education and care that inspires the children to acquire fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese (note: knowledge of Mandarin is NOT required for this role)
  • Marketing the centre and working closely with the management committee team to develop the Centre’s policies, programs and links to the community.

The Person

The successful candidate will be an experienced childcare Director. You have strong daily business operation skills including payroll, financial management and budgeting. You will have a strong background in sound recruitment, policy development and team-building. You will have a proven record in ensuring the highest quality of care and education for all children and families that excels in all areas of the EYLF& NQS frameworks. You will have the ability to work collaboratively with and for a management Committee, whilst providing leadership to a team of passionate bi-lingual educators.

Essential qualifications and attributes:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role at a child care centre in Australia, with strong staff management and leaderships skills
  • Diploma–level childcare qualification recognised by ACECQA
  • A strong understanding of the EYLF& NQS frameworks
  • Strong business and finance administration skills including payroll, AP/AR, preparing financial reports, budgeting and implementing internal financial controls.
  • Very strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Current and relevant first aid certificate and Working with Vulnerable People’s Check
  • Experience with Xero, MYOB or similar software, developing and administering budgets and undertaking book keeping tasks
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including an ability to work with and for a management Committee

Highly desirable qualifications and attributes

  • Previous experience working in a bilingual childcare or education environment or leading a highly multicultural and multilingual centre.
  • An ACECQA approved Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) qualification
  • Fluency in Mandarin or another language other than English.
  • Applicants who already hold a Nominated Supervisors Certificate will be highly regarded.
