Senior Financial Accountant
This position is responsible for managing financial, accounting, and payroll services to meet legislative responsibilities and organisational requirements.

Selection Criteria:

- Understanding of and commitment to BYS vision and objectives and ability to work within the BYS financial management framework
- Sound working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, tax and company legislation, and the relevant Awards
- Demonstrated financial accounting experience in Australia (experience within a not-for-profit preferred, but not essential)
- Advanced skills using accounting software (Xero preferred) and MS Office applications, particularly Excel
- Strong ability to produce and organise financial management reports and processes with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated success working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders

Education, Qualifications, Requirements [Mandatory]:
- Tertiary qualifications / university degree in Accountancy, Economics, Business Management or equivalent
- CA or CPA certified
- Current Queensland driver’s license
- Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card] / willingness to obtain a Blue Card prior to commencement
- Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases prior to commencement: Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; and COVID-19
- Three relevant references
Skills & Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ working experience in finance, including:
- Previous experience in Financial Accountant position in Australia
- Preparation and analysis of financial management reports
- Financial documentation and bookkeeping
- Payroll administration, including superannuation and tax
- Preparation of budgets and cash flow projections at program and consolidated level
- Business Activity Statement (BAS) reporting and payment
- Liaising with independent auditors
- Experience in managing financial acquittals for government grants for non-profit organisations is preferred, but not essential
- Strong organisational, analysis, and planning skills

KEY RESULT AREAS – Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of monthly financial, management, and Board reporting in line with deadlines
- Maintain, manage, and reconcile general ledger in Xero in compliance with the Australian Accounting Standards Board.
- Preparation of BAS and other regulatory requirements including FBT and Portable Long Service Leave
- Oversee fortnightly payroll processing in accordance with Industrial Relations regulations and Award conditions
- Oversee bookkeeping processes, working collaboratively with internal and external finance staff
- Generate Tax Invoices for regular and ad hoc charges to third parties and monitor for payments received
- Comply with Industrial Relations Award conditions, Superannuation legislation and relevant taxation requirements, including periodical reporting or submissions
