Deliver specialist, child-centred, and family-focused support and interventions that protect, strengthen, and empower families.

This full-time or part-time position of Family Support Worker supports our mission by engaging and providing support to young families who are at risk of being homeless or considered to be vulnerable. Using brief intervention, intensive support and group activities, the aim is to strengthen parent-child relationships, develop families’ parenting skills, address child safety concerns and assist families to gain and maintain stable housing.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of Child Protection Legislation, the Child Protection System and contemporary approaches to supporting young parents to protect their children from harm
  • The ability to conduct intake and assessment process with young parents and children and assist them to achieve their goals through effective case management and evaluation
  • The ability to co-facilitate support group work to engage with young parents and children to provide information and education
  • A proven ability to work without direct supervision, exercising a high degree of initiative, judgement and decision making in individual case work while fostering a strong team environment
  • High level of written and interpersonal skills including report writing, and the ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team including recording relevant client data and evaluation
  • Sound organisation skills and effective time management with the ability to plan and prioritise work

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; and COVID-19.
