Bus Stop Films is a female disability led non-profit social enterprise organisation focused on supporting people with disability through filmmaking and capacity building, while changing hearts and minds within the screen industry. We achieve this through our Accessible Filmmaking Program, high quality award winning films and employment support services.

Our programs are delivered in partnership with leading film schools and creative organisations across Australia.

We are recruiting for the Support and Engagement Manager, this role is critical to the organisation and is responsible to ensure high participant engagement in the programs across locations and management of the support workers and volunteers.

This role is based in Sydney, and will require the applicant to be in our Carlton office one day/week (Tuesdays) and otherwise work from home.

Key roles and responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Create a strategic training and development plan for all support workers in conjunction with the General Manager of People and Culture to implement across the calendar year.
  • Prepare and onboard all new support workers including leading their training day.
  • Lead an Access training session at the start of each year for all tutors and support workers, and provide reference resources and support to tutors in this area as needed.
  • Manage the recruitment process of support workers and volunteers.
  • Sight, record and maintain appropriate documentation for Support Workers
  • Ensure all programs are staffed appropriately with the required support workers and/or volunteers
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the NDIS and provide ongoing guidance to Bus Stop Films and its participants around any changes that may impact participant’s ability to claim Bus Stop Films’ program on their NDIS plans.
  • Host NDIS support sessions for participants and their carers via zoom, based on demand/need.
  • Host Volunteer open days and work with our Project and Programs coordinator to deliver these.
  • Identify any performance issues and escalate to the General Manager of Programs where appropriate
  • Hold performance reviews with support workers
  • Identify Speaking Panel opportunities and be prepared to take on speaking opportunities on behalf of Bus Stop Films.
  • Build partnerships with Local Providers and Area Coordinators across the country.
  • Manage, roster and develop the Support workers and Support and Engagement Lead.
  • Schedule back-up support workers as needed

Participant Engagement

  • New and Existing participant onboarding into the ‘Accessible Film Studies Program’
  • Complete the appropriate participant consultations
  • Provide support for Bus Stop Employment on selected Candidates
  • Provide on-set support work where possible.
  • Support the On-Set Support Worker training program.
  • Attend classes when and if appropriate.

Reporting

  • Provide term reporting to the General Manager of Programs on participant, tutor, support workers, Support and Engagement Lead and volunteer progress.
  • Review and sign off on excursion requests
  • Review and sign off on escalated issues.
  • Ensure all appropriate documentation has been kept up to date.

Complaint Management

  • Manage any escalated incidents that arise in the classroom between participants.
  • Respond to, and capture any feedback or concerns reported by participants or their carers.
  • Escalating and discussing any concerns or issues with the General Manager of Programs.

Administration

  • Ensure that all participants details are kept up to date in the app and portal
  • Management of incident reports and excursion reports
  • Management of new enrolments and confirmation of participant enrolment.
  • Update participant profiles on CRM/database when applicable.
  • Sign off Risk Assessments
  • Write NDIS Member Support Letters

Inclusive Filmmaking

  • Work with the support workers to ensure they are prepared for managing participants on an inclusive film set
  • Provide feedback to Tutors and Support Workers where improvements can be made to ensure participant inclusion and escalate to the COO if required.

Ad hoc

  • Other duties as reasonably required.

Qualification and Skills

  • 10+ years Disability Experience (complex and high risk preferred)
  • 5 years' minimum experience working in or alongside the NDIS
  • Grievance management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate high risk situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal
  • Administrative skills - ability to plan, meet deadlines, manage an active inbox, roster staff, and multi-task.
  • Ability to work in harmony with other team members
  • Strong problem solving skills and adaptability
