This is an exceptional opportunity to make a very real contribution to the protection of Australia’s unique wildlife and their habitat.
Bush Heritage Australia, an independent, leading conservation not-for-profit, is seeking a Station Stay Manager - Hamelin to work within our West team.
Our vision of Healthy Country, Protected Forever sees us work where we are needed most: in areas of high conservation value with low levels of protection. With the help of our donors, we buy and manage land, so we can protect our irreplaceable landscapes and our magnificent native species forever.
We buy land that has outstanding conservation values and reconnect fragmented landscapes to protect habitat for wildlife. In addition, we partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and agricultural landowners to achieve conservation outcomes. Currently, Bush Heritage is working across more than 11.3 million hectares, protecting native and endangered species.
The Hamelin Station Stay Manager reports to the Healthy Landscapes Manager – Western Rangelands and will work closely with the Hamelin Reserve Manager, Field Officer and other Bush Heritage staff.
Hamelin Station is 202,644 ha and located on the southern base of the Peron Peninsula about 100 km southeast of Denham in the Shire of Shark Bay. Its western property boundary adjoins the Shark Bay World Heritage Area and approximately 40 km of Hamelin Pool frontage (Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve). The Hamelin Pool stromatolites site is directly adjacent to Western boundary of Hamelin Station.
Hamelin Station has a well-developed station stay that operates from April to mid-October. There are 30 unpowered caravan sites, and 8 rooms with bedding/linen provided. Hamelin Station Stay is recognised across Australia as an excellent example of a remote station stay conservation tourism enterprise. It is imperative that this reputation is maintained and built upon.
The Hamelin Station Stay Manager will oversee and manage the Hamelin Station Stay operations. This includes managing two Hospitality Assistant roles and working with these Assistants to clean and maintain all hospitality facilities as a team, all bookings, payments and finance reconciliation, ensuring facilities within the station stay precinct are maintained to the highest standard, engaging with visitors, and ensuring all visitors, staff and volunteers working within the Station Stay precinct adhere to Bush Heritage health and safety requirements. Bush Heritage Volunteers will also be available to assist with Station Stay operations and maintenance.
The Station Stay staff team will initiate and provide opportunities to engage guests with Bush Heritage Australia, and Hamelin Reserve conservation programs. To engage and inform station stays guests, the Station Stay team will arrange presentations and field activities to be provided by visiting experts/professionals in science, education, training and land management conservation activities at Hamelin Reserve and the Shark Bay region.
Free on-site accommodation is provided for the Station Stay Manager – this is an open plan, one bedroom unit that includes a kitchen and ensuite bathroom. This accommodation directly adjoins the main Station Stay building that contains the Guest Reception Office, guest communal kitchen, dining room and covered BBQ area. The Manager is responsible for their own meals/food supplies in this remote location – food can be delivered from Geraldton via online shopping/regular courier services.
