Burrun Dalai Aboriginal Corporation provides foster care to Aboriginal children & young people of the Macleay, Nambucca, Hastings, Manning, Armidale and Tamworth Regions. It is one of the largest Aboriginal agencies in NSW. 

We are now recruiting for an Aboriginal Family Preservation Manager to join our multidisciplinary team and work within a supportive community focused organisation.

This opportunity would suit someone with previous experience as a manager wishing to further their career and/or background of Child Protection and is looking for a full-time role in Tamworth, NSW.

Principal Duties include but not limited to:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and review of Family Preservation programs
  • Ensure service delivery aligns with state frameworks.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in program delivery.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with child protection services, Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), schools, and health services.
  • Represent the service in interagency meetings and forums.
  • Staff Supervision and Development
  • Lead and support casework and support staff in providing high-quality, culturally competent services.
  • Advocate for child/children and families within the service where applicable.
  • Facilitate regular supervision, case reviews, and professional development plans.
  • Monitor information entry and perform regular audits on client files.
  • Practice and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and practice standards including mandatory reporting, safeguarding policies, and child protection legislation.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting systems to meet funding and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor, Evaluation, and continuous improvement. Demonstrated capacity to use data, casework metrics, and client feedback to evaluate program effectiveness and lead continuous service improvement.
  • Written and verbal communication. Strong ability to write reports, funding submissions, policy documents, and deliver presentations to executive teams and government stakeholders.
  • Regulatory and Legislative Knowledge. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection0 Act 1998 (NSW), including its application to child protection risk thresholds, mandatory reporting obligations, care and protection orders, and the role of statutory agencies.
  • Current Drivers Licence

Essential Criteria

  1. Aboriginality
  2. Working knowledge of the Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act (1988), and a proven willingness to keep up to date.
  3. Leadership and Team Development. Proven ability to lead, supervise, and support multidisciplinary teams delivering frontline services, including performance management, supervision, and fostering a reflective practice culture.
  4. Relevant Qualifications and/or extensive demonstrated experience in Aboriginal welfare and child protection areas experience in Management.
  5. Strategic and Operational Planning. Ability to develop program goals, strategic plans, and operational frameworks aligned with organisational objectives.
  6. Contract and Performance Management. Experience in managing government-funded service agreements, including meeting KPI's, reporting obligations, and delivering on outcomes-based contracts.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
  8. Self-motivated with proven effective time management and organisational skills.
  9. Availability to travel as required.
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Opportunity, Ethical practices, and continuous quality improvement.
  11. Hold a Current NSW Driver License and ability to travel to perform the duties.
