Youth Support Workers

The Burdekin Association Inc. is a community based not for profit organisation. The primary aim of the organisation is to prevent youth homelessness and family breakdown through providing a range of innovative accommodation, care and support services to young people and families. Following our recent expansion into Sydney’s Inner West we are seeking additional Support Workers to support these services - full-time, part-time and casual roles are available.

This position is responsible for the meaningfully engagement of young people aged 12-18 years old, with the aim of meeting the developmental, cultural and care needs of the young people by ensuring young person's day to day care, actively participate in program activities, supporting the young person's case plan and developing their personal skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUPPORT WORKER WILL INCLUDE:

  • Effectively engage with young people in a range of activities to assist them to develop their skills
  • Work under general direction in the application of procedures, methods and guidelines
  • Solving problems of limited difficulty using knowledge, judgement and work organisational skills
  • Provide person-centred support to young people
  • Support, supervise, organise and participate in activities with young people within and outside of the home
  • Work with young people and case managers in developing young people’s independent living skills
  • Participate (where appropriate) together with the case manager in the development of case plans with the young people to promote life skills, engagement in social activities and addressing any additional needs (i.e. mental health, behavioural)
  • Work sensitively, professionally and with confidentiality when engaging with young people, carers, family and other support networks
  • Promote and support the delivery of person-centred services in line with The Burdekin Association’s values, vision and strategic directions

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Relevant qualification min. Certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work or equivalent
  • Knowledge of trauma and impact on behaviour
  • Effective negotiation / mediation skills
  • Knowledge of relevant Child Protection legislation
  • Must be able to complete 24hr shifts
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check; or willingness to complete these checks

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in the Out of Home Care Sector
  • Experience working with complex and challenging young people
  • Current unrestricted Class C NSW Drivers Licence. Minimum Green Provisional Driver's Licence
  • Comprehensively insured vehicle
