About Bunurong Land Council

Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.

We advocate for cultural heritage, land management, and community empowerment across Greater Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, and the Bass Coast, ensuring the voices and traditions of our ancestors continue to be recognised, respected, and protected.

About the Role

BLCAC is seeking a committed and community-minded Strong Country Ranger (Sea Country) to support the ongoing care and management of Bunurong Sea Country.

Working under the direction of the Strong Country Ranger Team Leader (Sea Country), this role will help build BLCAC’s capacity to deliver marine and coastal management programs that reflect the cultural, ecological, and spiritual significance of the waterways, coastlines, and marine ecosystems of Bunurong Country.

This hands-on field role contributes to a wide range of on-Country activities including pest and invasive species control, wildlife conservation, cultural and ecological fire management, coastal restoration, and supporting cultural heritage protection. The role also works collaboratively with other Ranger teams across the Bunurong RAP area.

This position is ideal for someone who loves working outdoors, is committed to caring for Country, and is passionate about learning and applying Sea Country knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and delivery of marine and coastal management activities.
  • Participate in pest plant and animal control, wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, and bushland regeneration.
  • Support cultural and ecological fire management operations.
  • Assist with cultural heritage protection activities across Sea Country.
  • Safely operate, maintain, and care for tools, vehicles, vessels, and equipment.
  • Work flexibly across different work programs and adapt to changing daily tasks.
  • Engage respectfully with community, stakeholders, agencies, and partner organisations.
  • Work and travel across Bunurong Country as required.
  • Follow directions from Team Leaders to deliver tasks safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Comply with all BLCAC policies, procedures, and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.

What You Bring

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
  • Coxswain Ticket (or willingness to obtain)
  • Agvet Chemical User Permit (or willingness to obtain)
  • Chainsaw Licence (desirable)
  • 4x4 driving experience (desirable)
  • Clear Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Office)
  • Plant identification skills (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience using GPS, maps, and navigation tools (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience or interest in Sea Country management, land management, coastal care, fire management, pest control, or wildlife conservation
