Pedagogy & Practice Coach

BPA Children Services

The Role

BPA Early Learning operates 38 kindergartens and long day care centres across western Melbourne, supporting children and families in some of the region’s most diverse communities. We’re establishing two new Pedagogy and Practice Coach roles to work directly and intensively with our Diploma and Certificate III qualified educators — building capability in the room, session by session, service by service.

This is hands-on, relationship-centred work. You will observe practice, build trust, ask the right questions, and help educators grow without creating defensiveness. You will work within a structured, evidence-based coaching methodology and as part of your induction will complete the University of Melbourne’s CLASS Observation Training — giving you a validated framework for observing and strengthening educator–child interactions.

This is a non-contact role. You won’t be counted in ratio — your time is for coaching, observing and building.

Your key focus areas will include:

  • Working intensively with cohorts of Diploma and Certificate III educators across BPA’s kindergartens and long day care centres to strengthen practice and improve outcomes for children.
  • Applying structured, evidence-based coaching methodologies in close partnership with the Head of Pedagogy and Practice, contributing to a consistent approach across the network.
  • Using CLASS Observation frameworks to observe educator–child interactions, identify strengths, and develop targeted coaching goals.
  • Supporting educators to strengthen educational programming, documentation, and their understanding of the EYLF and VEYLDF.
  • Partnering with Nominated Supervisors and Centre Directors to embed coaching into the rhythm of each service and track educator growth over time.
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of professional learning across BPA’s network.

You will love this role if you bring

  • A qualification in early childhood education (Bachelor minimum) and substantial practice experience, ideally across sessional kindergarten and/or long day care settings.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring educators in a formal or informal capacity — you know how to build trust and help people grow.
  • Strong working knowledge of the National Quality Framework, the EYLF and VEYLDF, and what high-quality educational programming looks like in practice.
  • Confidence working with educators at different career stages, including those who may be uncertain or resistant to outside support.
  • Excellent communication skills and a genuinely strengths-based approach to practice development.
  • Strong self-management and the ability to work across multiple services without losing focus or follow-through.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo relevant child safety screening, including a Working with Children Check and reference checks, in line with BPA’s Child Safe policies.
