At Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary we empower, educate and inspire our community to connect and care for wildlife, their habitats and the environment. Every year our rescue service handles more than 17,000 calls for sick, injured and orphaned animals, with many being treated at the Bonorong Wildlife Hospital. Our patients include endemic and migratory species, including several listed as endangered and found nowhere else on planet Earth.

To support the growing number of wild animals requiring specialist veterinary treatment, Bonorong is expanding its operations through extended operating hours, recruitment of additional veterinary resources and construction of a state-of-the-art primary care centre. We also facilitate a cat desexing program aimed at stemming the tide of feral cats and their devastating impact on wildlife.

By joining the Bonorong team, you'll be contributing to a sustainable staffing model in tune with the seasonal ebb and flow or injured and orphaned animals. For the right candidate, we are offering:

• Hands-on experience with an unparalleled range of species from the magnificent wedge-tailed eagle to the diminutive pardalote, the endangered Tasmanian devil to the curious platypus
• Access to an array of diagnostic tools encompassing digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, in-house biochemistry and lab-based histopathology
• Mentoring and support from experienced wildlife vets and vet nurses with local area knowledge and expertise in animal handling, anaesthesia and species-specific therapies
• Exclusive access to a veterinary knowledge base encompassing thousands of animals already treated at the Bonorong Wildlife Hospital
• A key role on our multidisciplinary ‘Primary Care Team’ comprised of experienced wildlife keepers, rehabilitation carers and support staff with frontline conservation experience.

In return, we are seeking to engage people with:

• A passion for veterinary medicine, a degree in Veterinary Science and eligibility for registration through the Veterinary Board of Tasmania
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and the motivation to work inclusively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• A thorough understanding of the principles of emergency medicine including the ability to triage and prioritise effectively under pressure
• Well-developed time management and organisational skills, evidenced by a proven track record managing dynamic caseloads
• The capacity to embrace change as our Primary Care function evolves and adapts to threats and opportunities in wildlife conservation and biodiversity.
