SEARMS is a registered National Regulatory System for Community Housing Providers (NRSCH) Aboriginal Community Housing provider (ACHP). We have served Aboriginal communities in regional NSW since 2003.

Our portfolio is complex. We own and manage our own 45 houses as well as 445 properties owned between 9 other Aboriginal organisations (including Local Area Land Councils) and the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) NSW (state-owned assets) under 16 different service agreements!

Being a Tier 3 provider under NRSCH confirmed our commitment to best practise generally and allowed us to access other sources of funds (other than the rent revenues) to build our internal capacity and capabilities; commence residential developments; established an internal Property Care Crew and pursue specialist homeless service contracts.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing and reconciliation of day to day financial transactions, including data processing, journal entries, tenancy related transactions, maintaining accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial record keeping and other finance duties through to end of month processes.

You will be a self-motivated team member with the ability to collaborate effectively in a small team environment, working with minimum supervision.

Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Record and process all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Daily bank reconciliations
  • Action tenant related invoices within 7 business days of receipt
  • Maintenance of financial and data systems that ensure service delivery quality standards are being met
  • Provide appropriate reports and documentation to meet internal and external requirements
  • Provide information and support to staff, vendors, customers and management on financial matters, as well general administrative support within SEARMS

Whilst the experience to perform the main functions of the role are critical, your ability to align with the organisations values is essential to being successful in this position.

Essential requirements for the role include the following:

  • A minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable
  • A Cert IV in Accounting or bookkeeping or a willingness to commence within first 9 months of commencing.
  • Well developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Well developed time management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment, responding flexibly to meet changing needs, priorities and deadlines
  • Experience in MYOB / Consol Cloud Property software or equivalent (highly desirable)
