About Us

The Bininj Kunwok Regional Language & Culture Centre (BKRLCC) is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and strengthening Bininj Kunwok languages, cultures, and knowledge across Kakadu National part and the West Arnhem region. We work closely with Traditional Owners, Elders, communities, schools, researchers, and government agencies to support language revitalization, maintenance, monitoring and evaluation, cultural education, and any other community-led initiatives and programs.

Role

The Administration Officer provides administrative and operational support to the management team to ensure the efficient and effective operations of BKRLCC.

The Administration Officer is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Centre. Including the running of the Darwin office, supporting the management tea, linguists and casual language staff and fostering strong community and stakeholder relationships.

This role requires an experienced administration officer who is culturally grounded, community-focused, and skilled in managing an office and small casual workforce. The Administration Officer is expected to operate with a high degree of initiative and collaborate effectively with the management team.

BKRLCC is committed to supporting local Aboriginal employment. This is an identified Aboriginal position, pursuant to sections 35 and 57 of the NT Anti-Discrimination Act.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily office operations, including the management of office supplies, equipment, facilities, and service providers.
  • Manage the office budget, including processing invoices, monitoring expenditure, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all BKRLCC office enquiries, ensuring timely and professional responses.
  • Provide administrative support to senior management, including calendar management, inbox and communication management, travel & logistics support, document preparation and stakeholder relations.
  • Assist in coordinating and preparing BKRLCC meetings, including scheduling, circulating meeting papers, confirming attendance, arranging catering and providing support to the secretariat as required.
  • Provide administrative support to the Board including:
    • Assist in preparation of Board meetings and associated papers, record keeping and meeting minutes preparation.
    • Receive and collate new member applications, ensuring the GYGM Member Register is maintained.
  • Assist staff with travel bookings, accommodation, logistics and meeting arrangements.
  • Support the onboarding of new employees.
  • Review, maintain, and manage staff timesheets and meeting records, ensuring accuracy and timely submission for payroll processing.
  • Assist with payroll processing, record keeping, reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, filing systems, and databases in accordance with BKRLCC policies and legislative requirements.
  • Manage the BKRLCC vehicle fleet, including coordinating servicing, repairs, registrations, insurance, and vehicle records.
  • Assist with promotion of BKRLCC programs, projects, and events using the current digital media platforms, paper and word of mouth.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in emergency management and response activities as required.
  • Promote and uphold the BKRLCC Code of Conduct and organisational values in all interactions.
  • Perform other duties as required, consistent with the scope and purpose of the role.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in administration, office management, governance or business support roles.
  • A high level of discretion with the ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive corporate and cultural information with integrity.
  • Experience processing payroll and managing timesheets.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Xero and collaboration software
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders in a highly dinamyc cross-cultural environment.
  • Current Ochre Card

Desirable

  • Certificate III or IV in Business Administration, Business Management, or a related equivalent, a diploma is desired.
  • Experience working in a community organisation, Aboriginal corporation, or not-for-profit environment.
  • Knowledge of payroll software and financial administration systems.
  • Experience with social media management and digital communications.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal languages, culture, and community engagement.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates (or capacity to acquire/update independently).
  • A current NT Driver’s Licence.
