About Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS)

MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families. Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. 

About the Role

This is a role that combines lived experience of being a consumer of public mental health services with education expertise. The successful incumbent will facilitate the development and implementation of a pilot program for a Lived Experience cadetship at MHDAS.

About You

  • Peer work experience is desirable, however your lived experience of overcoming the impact if mental illness/ distress and/ or drug and alcohol use will make you an ideal candidate for this role,
  • You will be able to recognise and understand your own personal recovery process and be able to navigate the tertiary mental health system and support others to do the same.
  • You will have a strong ability to prioritise workloads and build and maintain professional relationship’s with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Your sound knowledge and understanding of peer support principles will allow you to bring all of your previous lived experience and understanding of the mental health system to be able to develop and implement a pilot program that leads the way to educating new cadets to become confident peer support workers.
