Here at Beyond Essential Systems (BES) we make awesome technology and put it to good use in the world. Our aim is to improve decision making in low resource settings by providing meaningful data that results in well informed decisions, and better outcomes for individuals. Our services and products have an impact across health, education, supply chain and disaster management, and we are proud to be able to provide innovative and collaborative solutions, while working closely with local partners in the Asia / Pacific region.
As the Scrum Master in the BES team, you’ll be working on projects that directly impact our overall mission. Our software suite includes Tupaia and Tamanu and we also implement and support mSupply and DHIS2 systems, all of which you’ll contribute to.
Currently, our team is building features at pace to establish Tamanu as a fully-fledged hospital medical record, bringing health records in the Pacific into the modern era of eHealth technology. This enables much better continuity of care and better health outcomes for populations that are traditionally underserved, and is work we’ve very proud to be a part of!
The scrum master lubricates the gears, joins the dots, and glues the software engineering and project management teams together to keep the day to day on track, so we can meet our ambitious work plan and continue to deliver regular, high quality releases overflowing with new features. They are a central axis, ever present with a broad focus, around which everything revolves. This also means they influence the tone and culture of the organisation – which is pretty special at BES!
You’ll have a real connection with our purpose and will be looking for a role where your work has a meaningful influence and impact on the lives of others. You’ll be a natural collaborator with initiative and drive.
Ideally, you’ll have previous experience as a Scrum Master, but as we have already bedded in our agile project management it’s also a good opportunity to learn the ropes if you are looking to transition into a new career.
Existing skills in coaching, project management, release management, software delivery, or people management would be an advantage, as would experience in the fields of software/technology, healthcare, or international development.
As well as being part of key projects and having meaningful work, we also offer:
Right now, we are using a mix of remote and office work. We will prefer candidates who can base themselves at one of our main hubs:

We would especially encourage you to apply if you are from a community that’s underrepresented in the technology or aid industry. In both industries, it’s harder than it should be to create a team with a balance of demographics and backgrounds, but we continually strive to more closely match the communities we serve.
We’ll hire as soon as we get the right candidate, so don’t delay!
