About the role:

Bethany is excited to advertise for the role of Supervised Contact Worker. This is a casual position, based at our Hamlyn Heights office. The successful applicant will work across Bethany’s Children Contact Service (CCS) and Family Engagement Service (FES). Both services offer families an independent and neutral venue where supervised contact visits for children and young people of separated parents can occur in a safe, supportive and family friendly environment.

Hours of operation for this role are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:30pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday from 9:00am to 5:30pm. The hours will vary dependent on service demand.

Key responsibilities:

  • To supervise and support contact visits between children and their parents/guardian or significant family members ensuring that the needs and wellbeing of children and young people are prioritised at all times
  • To maintain clear and detailed written records of all observations, interactions and supervised contact visits with parents and children
  • To write clear and objective court reports
  • To undertake assessments and provide orientation for children and parents accessing the service
  • To facilitate changeover of children from one parent to another in accordance with clearly defined procedures and practice standards
  • To ensure that the program policies and guidelines are adhered to in order to promote and ensure children’s safety and well-being while using the service; including compliance with all policies and procedures of the program and the organisation

About you:

  • A relevant qualification or currently studying social work, psychology or other related discipline relevant to the human services sector
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of child development, family violence, trauma, and strength based practice
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking observation of client/child behaviour
  • Ability to demonstrate culturally sensitive practice, inclusive of the needs of Indigenous, LGTBI and CALD communities
  • An understanding of the issues relating to family separation, parenting and the Family Law Act
