The Opportunity

Berry Street are implementing an evidence-based model of care called the Teaching-Family Model (TFM). TFM is a therapeutic behavioural program, which sees children living with highly trained staff, known as Practitioners in a home setting. The TFM Practitioners, use teaching interactions, relationships and skills building which is targeted to reduce problem behaviours and increase prosocial behaviours.

The model is trauma informed and helps young people identify personal stressors and develop appropriate self-regulation techniques. Overall, goals of the program include reduced problem behaviours, increased prosocial behaviours, increased social skills, accomplishment of age-appropriate tasks, and relationship development.

The role of the TFM Practitioners is use the TFM model to create lasting behavioural change for young people. You will be heavily support by the TFM Consultant, who will coach you through learning the model over a 12-month period. Your learning modalities will include formal training, on the job coaching, observations and formal feedback processes. There is compulsory training for this role for successful candidates.

Teaching Family Model homes are staffed on a 24/7 roster, with opportunities available for both qualified and unqualified staff. We have two vacant positions available, please see below for the relevant line rosters available.

Part Time Stand Up Roster:

WEEK 1 - Wed 10.30pm - 8am, Thursday 10.30pm - 8am.

WEEK 2 - Monday 10.30pm - 8am, Tuesday 10.30pm -8am, Friday 10.30pm - 8am, Saturday 10.30pm - 8am.

Full Time Roster:

WEEK 1 - Monday 7am -3.30pm, Tuesday 8am -4pm, Wednesday 7am - 3.30pm, Thursday 8am - 4pm,

Saturday 3pm -11pm and Sunday 3pm - 11pm.

WEEK 2 - Tuesday 1pm - 11pm, Thursday 3.3pm - 11pm, Friday 2pm - 11.30pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a client centred, family focused and strengths-based approach.
  • Participate in intensive training, coaching and feedback processes, to help develop your skills to provide quality care.
  • Work towards mastering 11 TFM concepts over a year-long accreditation process.
  • Work collaboratively with a team, to ensure children and young people in care experience a loving and consistent approach.

About You

You will require a minimum Cert IV in Children, Youth & Family Intervention is preferred however as an RTO, Berry Street delivers this qualification and will invest in you if you do not have a relevant qualification. Completion of (or willingness to complete) mandatory upskilling units as required by Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. Berry Street also provides this in-house.
