The Opportunity

Berry Street’s Northern Specialist Family Violence Service (NSFVS) is a provider and access point for integrated family violence services in the Northern Metro Melbourne sub-region. The service provides a range of support services to families who have experienced family violence.

This role will play a critical role in providing counselling to victim survivors inclusive of cis gendered heterosexual women and, and people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer Community (LGBTIQ+) who have experienced family violence.

Depending on the Victorian restrictions at the time of the successful applicant starting, this role may be a hybrid of a working from home arrangement or in the office due to the COVID-19 situation. If so, the successful applicant will be expected to integrate into the team from home to begin with, slowly reintegrating into the office as Victorian restrictions are lifted.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide single-session, short-term and medium-term counselling to victim survivors who have experienced family violence. You will work from a framework that promotes a sense of self and encourages the victim survivors own empowerment and will have an understanding of the multi factorial contributors to the experience of family violence by an individual.

The role will provide group work as required that supports the recovery of impacts of family violence and offer consultation across the family violence program areas to staff working with victim survivors 

About You

You will hold a Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or a Counselling related qualification, or recent employment in the family violence sector or equivalency met through the 7 Equivalency Principles in line with the minimum mandatory qualification requirements.

The specialised level of this role will require the ability to be able to reflect and analyse complex situations arising in specialist family violence casework and the commitment to working collaboratively with the capacity to negotiate and liaise with other agencies and the community.
