Berry Street's Residential Programs provide accommodation, care and support to children and young people who cannot live with their families and who are referred through the child protection system.

The aim is first and foremost to achieve better outcomes for children and young people in Residential Care. To that end, the best interests of children and young people will guide all decision-making when considering care and support options to ensure a tailored response.

At the heart of the framework is the child and carer with specialist therapeutic intervention & support services wrapped around the young person to enable them to experience a sense of belonging, support to achieve and thrive.

About the role:

  • Act under instruction from Team Leader to ensure the quality and monitoring of service delivery in residential care.
  • Supporting the Team Leader in driving and leading a high-quality workforce coaching and mentoring to a team of Residential Workers.
  • Ensure an environment that provides a sense of safety, structure, acceptance and security at all time for children and young people and staff.
  • Ensure compliance standards meet DHHS requirements, including fire and emergency procedures.
  • Work with the Team Leader and Residential team on the delivery of a therapeutic care approach through coaching, development and training of staff.
  • Support the Team leader to maintain the Bairnsdale properties to a high standard and ensure all maintenance requirements are adhered to promptly.
  • Support the young people to maintain important links with their family of origin, friendship networks and the local community.

About you:

  • Ability to work positively with young people who may have a disability to achieve their goals
  • Are interested in making a contribution to the well being and development of young people who may have significant behavioural difficulties
  • Have flexibility in their approach to work and hours – particularly night shifts and over the Christmas break
  • Enjoy a degree of responsibility and lots of variety in their job
  • Are open minded and non judgemental
  • Have great communication skills, with the ability to engage well with young people and work well with other staff
  • Have the ability to remain emotionally calm in a crisis
  • Are professional in manner and presentation to deal with services supporting young people.

We staff our houses on a 24-hour roster, 7 days a week and you would be required to work shifts that could fall within these hours. The Residential Unit Co-ordinator role will predominantly be working during office hours but may be required to cover early or late shifts depending on the unit needs. There may be a requirement to be part of the on-call/ recall service as required.

If you have a qualification in Residential Care (Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention), Youth Work, Community Services, and Alcohol & Other Drugs (or other relevant qualification) this role may be right for you.
